The incident took place around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when the boy left home to go to his bus stop and stopped by a local convenience store to pick up a snack, said Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Anthony Bueti.
When the child was leaving the area of the store on Depeyster Street, near Clinton Street, he was struck by Jefferson Rodrigues-Veraf of Ossining, the chief said.
Rodrigues-Veraf got out of his vehicle and helped the boy up, then hopped back in the vehicle and drove away, Bueti said.
The boy, who received minor injuries, was transported to Westchester Medical Center. He was expected to be released this afternoon, the chief said.
Through video surveillance in the area, Sleepy Hollow Police, along with assistance from Greenburgh and Westchester County police officers, were able to track down Rodrigues-Veraf who was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Bueti said.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
"Through the cooperation of the three agencies we were able to quickly catch the person responsible," Bueti said. "Excellent job by all."
